Vilka Sipilä, 29, nousi ryminällä suomalaisen shakkielämän huipulle muutama vuosi sitten. Kolmen vuoden takaisesta huippuelosta 2474 on tultu sittemmin vähän alaspäin, mutta toisaalta myös pelityyli on saattanut vuosien mittaan hieman muuttua. Sipilä on voittanut Suomen mestaruuden kahdesti, 2012 ja 2016. Hänellä on myös kaksi suurmestarikiinnitystä, joten jännättäväksi jää, tuleeko Ellivuoresta kolmas.

Vilka Sipilä, 29, worked his way to the top of the Finnish chess world a few years ago. Though not quiet managing to maintain his peak Elo rating of 2474 achieved three years ago, his playing style has had plenty of time to mature over the years. Sipilä is the reigning Finnish champion since last summer, and he also won this title in 2012. He has also secured two of the three norms required for the Grandmaster title, so he really has something to play for at Ellivuori.
